Tax preparation · Federal Way, Washington
Tax preparation starts with organized records.
Federal Way tax preparation by CPAs: organized records, document readiness, bookkeeping handoff, prior-year questions, and filing deadlines.
How can we help?
What to review
Prepare the records, return details, and deadlines.
Tax preparation starts with the return, year, entities, and jurisdictions involved. Review the records available and identify gaps before preparation begins.
Keep bookkeeping cleanup and other work separate from filing. Agree how missing documents and questions are handled, who reviews the return, and the dates that matter.
Work to discuss
- Return type, tax year, entities, and jurisdictions
- Document readiness and missing-record questions
- Prior-year returns, notices, and unresolved items
- Bookkeeping-to-tax handoff and filing responsibilities

Good fit when
When this work helps
- Tax documents are arriving, but the business records are not ready for a clean handoff.
- A prior-year return, notice, or entity change creates questions about the current filing.
- The owner is unsure which documents belong to the individual return versus the business return.
- A deadline is approaching and the missing information needs to be identified quickly.
What to confirm
Know what is included before work begins.
- The taxpayer or entity, tax year, and returns in scope.
- The records still needed and who will supply them.
- The filing dates, review steps, and responsibilities.
- Whether cleanup, amendments, notices, or planning need a separate engagement.
Return type, entities, jurisdictions, record condition, and timing affect the work and fee. The proposal explains what happens when information is missing or the scope changes.
Agree the document deadline, how questions are resolved, and who approves the return. Planning, notices, amended returns, and bookkeeping cleanup need their own stated scope.
Consultation checklistCommon questions
Tax preparation questions and next steps.
Straight answers to what owners ask before the first conversation about tax preparation.
What should I gather before a tax-preparation consultation?
Start with the prior-year return, entity information, current-year income and expense records, payroll or contractor documents, estimated-tax payments, notices, and any major changes in ownership, operations, or filing status. We may ask for additional records after reviewing the return type and the condition of the books.
Do the books need to be complete before tax preparation starts?
Business returns depend on reliable year-end books. Bank and credit-card accounts should be reconciled, owner transactions identified, loan balances supported, payroll and contractor totals reviewed, and major asset purchases documented. When cleanup is needed, it becomes a separate step with its scope and timing agreed before the filing deadline.
Is tax planning included with return preparation?
Preparation reports what happened during the tax year, while planning evaluates choices before a future deadline. We offer them together or separately; the engagement lists which planning questions are covered, what information is needed, when recommendations are delivered, and whether follow-up is included.
What happens when a filing deadline is close?
We identify the exact return, due date, available documents, missing records, and whether an extension makes sense. An extension changes the filing deadline, not the payment deadline, so estimated liability and payment questions still get prompt attention.
